Dear SUHSD Board of Education
Hello my name is [REDACTED] I am a 10th grader that attends TIDE Academy, i choose to come to TIDE Academy because i remember hearing of how great TIDE was and how wonderful the community was and now that I am former student at TIDE I can confirm that this school has had a huge and positive impact on my life,my families life and in many more other students lives. I believe that TIDE Academy should have the chance and the opportunity to stay opened and if closes it can negatively affect the impact on students mental health and their academic performance, as well as it can negatively impacted the lives of staff.
In TIDE Academy I love that I can be myself and that I can express myself without the fear of being bullied and laughed at. The community in TIDE is something that I have never heard or never seen in other schools, we look out for one another and protect one another and as a student that is something that has impacted my life so powerfully and positively. I believe that the community here is something special and that we should protect to keep and not just look past it.TIDE Academy also offers a number of opportunities and support that in others schools you wouldn't have because of the fact they are too big that the teachers wouldn't support you the same way, and this is a big benefit to a students academic performance, as I notice in this school is that when you aren't doing so well in classes teachers pull you aside to talk to you about your grade and offer you solutions to get your grade up,they have even offered me and other students to stay in for lunch if we need it, while in other schools that my friends go to like Menlo-Atherton they don't offer as much support as they do in TIDE Academy.
If TIDE Academy were to close down it would have a huge negative academic impact on my life and as well as in my mental health. I would have to suffer changing schools half way through high school as well as having to adapt to new courses and classes, I would loose the support and confidence that I have in TIDE. As well as I wouldn't have the opportunity for me to take my dual enrollment classes that has been a huge help for me because my family doesn't have the money to send me to college and in TIDE my family has the opportunity and I have the opportunity for me to take free college classes so that I don't have to get in debt for my first year of college. I have had to move so many times in my life, I have had to move towns, schools before and by experience I know that switching schools can be a huge negative impact on the mental health of a student and the damage can be permanent.
TIDE Academy should have the opportunity to stay open, I would hate to see the negative impact and consequences that will follow if TIDE Academy closes, i will continue to fight for TIDE Academy and for our community, and I ask the Sequoia Union High School District Bored to come up with a solution so that this school can continue to operate and stay open. I would love to see and hear about the positive impact that TIDE Academy will have on the future generations of students.
