Hi [REDACTED],
Thanks for reaching out--and for caring about your school. I know uncertainty is stressful. No decision has been made to close TIDE Academy. On November 12, the Board asked the Superintendent to bring a process and timeline to the December 10 meeting that shows how the District will discuss and consider TIDE's future--and how students, families, and staff can be heard.
We respect what makes TIDE special--its small-school community and programs like dual enrollment, CTE, and Nucleus. Looking at a process doesn't take away from that value. At the same time, the District is facing a structural deficit, which means ongoing costs are rising faster than ongoing revenue (because of things like inflation, enrollment shifts, and limits in funding). Very small schools also tend to cost more per student, which can limit the number of classes and programs over time. That's why we need a careful, student-centered process.
There will be an opportunity in January for students to share input directly with the Superintendent; we'll send details once the date is confirmed.
What to know right now:
- No decision has been made, and school continues as usual.
- You can follow and speak during public comment at the December 10 Board meeting.
Thank you again for your message--your voice matters, and we're listening

Dear SUSHD Board of Education,
Heyyyyy everyone!!!! .(good morning if it's 12pm-11:59pm if its 12am- 11:59am good afternoon) I am . I chose TIDE mainly because I am not the best in big schools. I get off topic very easily, and it was honestly open because it gives kids like me, who learn differently, a chance to have a true learning place. So I am not the best with this, so if I make any mistakes, just tell me. Thank you beforehand for even reading it. To start, I won’t be sending 100+ emails because that’s not how I think we should keep TIDE open. I’ll just tell you why I want TIDE to be open, and you can tell me where I am wrong so I can see it. Now at TIDE, it was one of the only places where I haven’t been made fun of. It truly means a lot because of that. I don’t know if you have kids or know any kids that are in special education , and it’s hard to learn because of it, but something I know is that if I leave, other schools won’t be as understanding. Teachers were understanding of what I have and helped me past it. They just help me with where to put my dots, something I never learned, but I learned it here. That’s why it’s so important. Then this one might just be more selfish, but I want TIDE to be open because when I am grown and have my kids, I can tell them I went to TIDE and it was so fun. I made so many new people, and I was able to learn in new ways. That is one of the most important things. I don’t know if you have kids; I don’t yet, but I work with them. When their faces light up, it makes me feel happy, and that’s what I want my kids to see at TIDE when I have them. Besides that, even if TIDE closes, it will give me lessons on life, like how Mr. B told me, but more about how to learn and be able to do more even though everything I did. That’s why TIDE is so important to me. That’s truly why I think it should be open. Lastly (I know I am all fancy now), I want it to stay open because I want TIDE to be a place where it’s seen as one of the best schools for having open places or not having any fights like other schools have, maybe one a day. I want it to be a place where everyone is welcome. I want to be able to tell people I went to TIDE and it was so good. That’s why. Sincerely, /the ones and only
